Monopose, Rogue Trader, Imperial Guard rider models. As far as I’m aware they were never supplied with anything specific to ride. They could be placed on Space Marine jet bikes as suggested in the Citadel Miniatures catalog above or modeled as cavalry if you could find them something appropriate to ride. I have three of them. I decided to model them as horse cavalry, which is decidedly the most boring option available considering dinosaurs are a canonical choice here. These riders are hand sculpted by the legendary Bob Naismith and difficult to find in the wild these days, so it was important to me to find some worthy horses for them to ride. I ended up settling on two horses from the plastic Wargames Atlantic kit and a single unicorn from the Pathfinders Deep Cuts miniatures line. The unicorn is sculpted from some kind of gross bendy plastic that is a nightmare to paint but he’s regal as fuck so I’ll persevere. Searching about google for guides on painting horses, I learned that there are many groups of hobbyists who paint nothing but scale model horses. This is something I love about humans, no matter how obscure or trivial a project seems there’s somebody out there who is doing it really seriously. So now after perusing all these pictures of expertly painted small horses, I clumsily slop some paint on my own models and my new Imperial Guard Rough Riders are ready for the battlefield!
Now all I have to do is find the entry for Rough Riders in my 8th edition codex and add them to my army list… oh, they’re not officially in the game anymore? Bummer. When do I get that 9th edition Codex, Gdubs? And more importantly… will it have horses?
